An expense ratio is the annual cost of operating a mutual fund. It's expressed as a percentage of your investment. This percentage covers the fund's management fees, administrative expenses, marketing, and other operational costs. Expense ratios directly impact your returns – the lower the expense ratio, the more of your investment returns you keep.
